Where To Live In The South Tampa Area
If you are thinking about buying in South Tampa, the main consideration is what type of home and area you would like to have and live in:
South Tampa Area: The South Tampa area is one of the most sought after areas for buyers and one of the first areas that started showing signs of improvement in sales and prices. One of the top High Schools in the area is in South Tampa: Henry B. Plant High School. Typically, real estate located in this district sells for at 6-15% more per square feet that other areas in South Tampa. Many wonderful areas are available for its residents such as the Soho Area, Hyde Park and Bayshore Boulevard full of fabulous restaurant, bars and other attractions. Must visit restaurants in South Tampa are Bern’s Steak House, The Epicurean, and Bella’s Italian restaurant. Downtown Tampa and one of the major hospitals such as Tampa General Hospital are very accessible. There is a conglomerate of diverse homes in the areas. You can find a mansion next to a tear down home, a modern design next to a bungalow and that is the main appeal to the area.
Channelside Area: This area is in such an actively expanding mode. There are many new apartment buildings and new construction projects going up and it seems supply cannot keep up with the demand for property in this area. There are several buildings that are the staple of Channelside like the luxurious Towers of Channelside, Ventana and Grand Central. The price per square foot may not be as expensive as some areas in Hyde Park or Bayshore, but very close. It is a favorite to young professionals and there seems to be a trend for modern gyms such as Crunch and Orange Theory sprouting out as well as new restaurants and other conveniences. There is an ambitious 3 billion dollar project to transform Channelside financed by Jeff Vinik (the owner of the Tampa hockey team, The Lightnings) and Bill Gates and this will definitely drive prices up all around that area.
Harbour Island Area: This island is situated adjacent to Downtown across the Garrison Channel which consists of mostly private residential areas, including high-rise condos, apartments, row houses, single-family homes and large houses, as well as a yacht club. The island has a Westin Hotel, Jackson's Bistro Bar & Sushi restaurant spanning 20,000 square feet boasting special event space and the new trendy American Social Restaurant with sweeping views of the area and wonderful atmosphere. Buying here might be pricey but worth the conveniences. HOA monthly payment might be expensive but include the 24 hr. guard service, maintenance of the beautifully landscape neighborhood and other conveniences depending on which area you purchase.
Davis Islands and Bayshore Boulevard: These areas are one of the most expensive and exclusive areas to live it. You just have to drive down Bayshore Boulevard to see the most sumptuous homes on the water or drive down Davis Island water front streets to see some of the most magnificent homes in the area. Dereck Jeter owns a home in Davis Islands at a custom home 30,000 square feet, seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom waterfront mansion! Davis Islands is also home to several small restaurants and the Davis Islands Yatch Club. If you need to be just minutes from downtown Tampa and South Tampa this is a favorite place for high executives, physicians and successful business men.
Ballast Point Area: The Ballast Point area boasts beautiful estates on the water and a similar eclectic flavor as most of South Tampa. This is area is very close to Macdill Air Force Base. While the high school assigned to this area is not at the same level as Plant High, the Elementary school: Ballast Point Elementary is a 9 out of 10 on Great Schools and is a favorite to many families with elementary school age students. Some conveniences are available such as restaurants, shops, and bakeries.
